My 800-word story, published in December, 2025, describes how excited I get when I see “the sunlight dancing on the water.” It can be a bay, ocean, river or lake.
God’s presence, in nature, is awe-inspiring to me: a favorite topic that I endeavor to write about.
If you read the story at Blue Mountain Christian News, my narrative is on page 22 – so you’ll have some scrolling to do!
If you can’t locate the actual article, I have attached the story below.
Shimmering, Twinkles of Light
“Look honey,” I exclaimed to my husband (as we jetted off the mainland, crossing the bridge to the island), “the sun is dancing on the water again!”
Pointing towards the glittering expanse, for one more occurrence, I held my breath in gratitude.
I observed the heavenly brilliance (like it was the first time, not the hundredth). I desired
to treasure the luminous snapshot of glory, and hide it deep in my heart.
Somewhat bedazzled, I mused out loud, “Do you ever wonder what the throne of God looks like?”
With childlike faith, I gleaned what my hubby and I captured from our earthly perspective could actually be reflecting heavens’ radiance (from unforeseen realms above).
When I peered at the dazzling sparkles of light, the emotion evoked in me was similar to something I read about in the Old Testament.
This story about the dedication of Solomon’s temple (see 2nd Chronicles 5:14) reminisces how saints were well aware they were standing on Holy Ground.
This Biblical narrative speaks to the intensity of God’s presence as the cloud of Glory seemingly prevented the priests from fulfilling their obligation in the Holy temple.
This awe-inspiring story refers to this phenomenon as God’s Shekinah glory.
“Yes indeed,” I concurred quietly to myself, “What I am witnessing is truly a visible manifestation of the Holy Spirit; a dwelling of the Almighty (often described as brilliant light).
“After all,” I reasoned, “Who could mistake the luminous fingerprints of sunlight dancing on the water, as anything other than an immense, grandeur expression of the divine?”
I was sure I had observed an unseen aspect of God’s Holy magnificence: it provoked a deep, spiritual connection in me. It continues to happen every instance I perceive a lustrous glow over a watery basin.
These God-sightings continue.
When I was first mesmerized by this glittery image (the shimmering twinkles of light bouncing off the waves), it was a few years ago when I moved into a new home with my husband.
As I was doing dishes, standing at the kitchen sink, I recall the beauty of the translucent sparkles catching my eye and taking my breath away.
The shine and glimmer of the sunlit ripples, bouncing off the brackish river, most notably touted God’s renown.
The dirty, mucky, brackish river (spilling into the Chesapeake Bay) wasn’t able to even slightly tarnish the eye-catching beauty.
Perhaps even more spectacular than our Maryland landscape, is the glistening gulf waters of Florida’s panhandle. This is where my husband and I reside in the winter.
Peering over the bridge to the popular vacation spot (smacked with several high rise hotels), the ethereal imagery still provokes awe in me. I can only explain the breath-taking view as a spiritual experience.
It wasn’t until recently, however, when I was visiting my ninety-year-old mother in Connecticut, that it dawned on me – nothing holds a candle to this latest sunlit, God-encounter.
Even the brackish water of the Long Island Sound, an estuary, where freshwater meets and mixes with saltwater from the Atlantic Ocean (often stinking of dead fish at low tide), couldn’t escape God’s glorious presence on display.
In Ezekiel 1:26-28, scripture reports how the prophet, under the power of the Holy Spirit, captures the “appearance of brightness” round about the throne of God.
Revelation 4:6 puts it this way, the throne of God was like a “transparent, glassy sea, as if it was made of crystal.”
It seems to me the biblical account of a “glassy sea” is similar to my personal experience of watching sunlight dancing on the water.
An online search regarding the symbolism of the crystal sea (found in the aforementioned text) is fond to represent God’s holiness, purity, and the divine presence. “It is a clear, glassy expanse that reflects God’s glory and majesty.”
What it means to me personally is that the contemporary presence of the Ancient of Days is near. The creator is at-hand. He is interacting with his creation.
In this supernatural experience, I believe two different manifestations of the Lord’s presence are being highlighted.
Wouldn’t you agree that Jehovah Elohim (God the Creator of the heavens and the earth) is parading his handiwork for all to see?
And that Jehovah-Shammah, meaning the Lord is near (referenced in Ezekiel 48:35) is showing off his ability to concurrently (in heaven and on this earth) form shimmering, twinkles of light, atop multiple surfaces of the water?
All surfaces of water. Any water. Anywhere. Whether crystal clear or mud-caked.
We all can catch glimpses of God’s glittering presence. Have you been awakened to this holy invitation?
